foundingGIDE at International Data Week 2025

foundingGIDE at international data week 2025

Why this session matters

Modern life science research generates an unprecedented variety of data types, ranging from imaging and structural biology to genomics and population-level studies. Unlocking the full potential of this data requires making it interoperable, reusable, and FAIR, while also enabling meaningful connections across disciplines.

The session will highlight:

  • Results from the RDA Multi-Omics Metadata Standards Integration Working Group
  • Early experiences from European initiatives (ELIXIR, EMBL, Euro-BioImaging, Instruct-ERIC) working toward a federated Life Science Research pilot node within the European Open Science Cloud (EOSC)
  • Global connections, including the Global Image Data Ecosystem (GIDE)

By linking efforts across regions and disciplines, this conversation aims to identify common challenges and promising approaches that can inform broader data integration efforts in the life sciences.

What to expect in the session

The program is designed to be interactive, with a balance of presentations and community input:

  • Welcome & Introduction – framing the session and inviting participants into the discussion
  • Flash talks: Linking Pixels, Proteins & Populations – short presentations offering different perspectives on multi-modal data integration
  • Guided small-group discussions – participants will engage directly in conversations about practical challenges and opportunities, supported by collaborative notes and Mentimeter
  • Plenary synthesis – reporting back from the groups to identify shared themes and next steps
  • Wrap-up – highlighting opportunities for future collaboration

The outcomes of the meeting will be captured here, in a short report summarizing the approaches discussed, the challenges identified, and concrete opportunities for future work.

Our role

As part of this session, foundingGIDE will share insights from our work on global interoperability for imaging data and connect these to broader community efforts in life sciences. By engaging across domains, we hope to strengthen collaborations that ensure imaging data can be integrated seamlessly with other research data types.

Join the conversation

The session will take place during International Data Week 2025, and is open to all researchers, data stewards, and infrastructure providers interested in the challenges of combining diverse data types across biomolecular disciplines.

We look forward to connecting with the wider RDA community, learning from shared experiences, and working together toward a more interoperable, FAIR, and globally connected data ecosystem.
