foundingGIDE at EMBO-JST: Global insights in life sciences
The European Molecular Biology Organization (EMBO) and the Japan Science and Technology Agency (JST) have been actively fostering collaborations between European and Japanese scientists to advance life sciences research. The EMBO-JST scientific meeting, held at EMBL Heidelberg on 26-28th of February 2025, brought together researchers from Europe and Japan to discuss key topics in life sciences, from stem cell development to computational genomics.

This meeting brought together researchers from diverse backgrounds to discuss a wide array of topics, including hematopoietic stem cell development, computational genomics and plant biology among other topics. The event served as a platform for sharing insights and fostering new collaborations between scientists from Europe and Japan.
foundingGIDE presented a poster highlighting the project collaborative effort to enhance interoperability of image data resources, involving partners such as the Systems Science of Biological Dynamics (SSBD) and RIKEN. The SSBD platform, developed under the Life Science Database Integration Project National Bioscience Database Center (NBDC) and Japan Science and Technology Agency (JST), is dedicated to sharing and reusing bioimaging data. RIKEN, a prominent Japanese research institute, has been instrumental in supporting SSBD, further strengthening the ties between these organizations.

Bringing together resources and expertise from institutions like SSBD, RIKEN, JST, EMBO and other international partners highlights the importance of addressing complex biological questions and driving innovation in the life sciences and imaging. foundingGIDE is bringing together image data resource owners and research infrastructures from Europe, Australia and Japan to develop the basis of global interoperable image data repositories.
