foundingGIDE aims to establish the basis of a coordinated Global Image Data Ecosystem (GIDE) and together with the global imaging community develop common recommendations for ontologies and metadata. Aiming to bring together researchers, infrastructure providers, and policymakers, the community event in Brisbane will address key challenges in interoperability and standardization of biological and preclinical imaging data to enable shared solutions across the imaging data ecosystem.

This year’s theme of Imaging Data Ecosystem: Towards Shared Solutions highlights foundingGIDE’s commitment to building a collaborative, interoperable ecosystem that enables the seamless sharing, integration, and reuse of biological and preclinical imaging data across disciplines, platforms, and borders. By bringing together diverse stakeholders—researchers, imaging facilities, data stewards, policy makers, and developers—foundingGIDE aims to coordinate practical solutions that address common challenges such as data standardization, ontology alignment, and long-term sustainability of imaging data resources.

The foundingGIDE Community Event 2025 will feature dynamic discussions and networking opportunities, designed to address critical challenges in biological and preclinical imaging data interoperability.

The foundingGIDE Community Event 2024, held in Okazaki, Japan is the first event in a series of three global community events planned during the lifespan of the project. Hosted online and in-person, the 2024 community event brought together more than 100 diverse range of stakeholders from around the world to tackle the pressing challenges of imaging interoperability. Here, speakers emphasized the importance of standardizing file formats, developing robust ontologies to make imaging data more accessible and reusable and other challenges in increasing image data interoperability. Read more on the 2024 community event here.

The Brisbane foundingGIDE Community Event 2025 will build on the past event success and continue the mission of enhancing imaging data interoperability.

Co-located events

The foundingGIDE Community Event is positioned between two major data-centric conferences and offers a unique opportunity for professionals engaged in research data management, imaging, and digital infrastructure to connect with the global data research community. FoundingGIDE Community event is following International Data Week 2025 (October 13–16) and preceding eResearch Australasia 2025 (October 20–24) all at the same location, Brisbane Convention and Exhibition Centre, Australia. These three events bring together communities working toward the FAIR data principles and advancing practices in data sharing, stewardship, and interoperability across scientific domains..

With International Data Week, the foundingGIDE Community Event, and eResearch Australasia all taking place in October, this month marks a vibrant convergence of global data communities in Brisbane—making it a cornerstone moment for advancing open science, data infrastructure, and cross-disciplinary collaboration.

foundingGIDE IDW eResearch Australasia

International Data Week 2025 is the perfect stage to showcase your work to a global audience! Whether you’re tackling data science, open research, AI, health, climate, or social impact—this is your chance to share your research, grow your global profile, and connect with world-leading experts. Submit a poster and put your work on the international map! Find out more.

The 2025 eResearch Australasia Conference will be held from 20 – 24 October, at the Brisbane Convention and Exhibition Centre. Hosted by Australasian eResearch Organisations (AeRO) Inc., the conference is the premiere event for those interested in eResearch and actively transforming research via information technology. The conference provides an exciting opportunity for delegates to engage, connect and share their ideas and exemplars concerning new information-centric research capabilities, and how ICT technologies can help researchers to collaborate, collect, manage, share, process, analyse, find, understand, and reuse information.
